In an effort to familiarize myself with the expectations of community college syllabi and in preparation to design my own I analyzed at a variety of basic writing syllabi and reviewed Anis Bawarshi's work on the genre of the syllabus. Below I have compiled a presentation where I review information that influenced my syllabus design and where I provide a brief analysis of how four syllabi position student writing within their classrooms.

To view the presentation, click on the "Start Prezi" button in the center of the screen. Then click the play button in the bottom right corner. If that does not work, click here to view the presentation on the Prezi site. This presentation is best viewed in a full-screen format. To make the presentation full screen, start the presentation then click on the "Fullscreen" button on the bottom right corner of the screen.

At the Root: A Genre Analysis of Community College Syllabi

This word cloud contains all of the text from the four syllabi I analyze in the above presentation. Take a look and see how it compares to the syllabus guidelines in its focus.

This word cloud contains all the text from the syllabus guidelines of the three community colleges that I analyzed. The focus of the guidelines is centrally on the "nuts and bolts" of syllabus creation.
